<Welcoming of Foreign Technical Trainees>
The Foreign Technical Trainees Program is a prefectural program in Kagoshima aimed at promoting international cooperation and contributing to the furthering of economic and cultural exchanges between Kagoshima and the home countries of the trainees, through the acceptance of technical trainees from developing countries and the
nurturing of these talents to enable them to contribute to their countries' growth and prosperity, as well as their interactions with Kagoshima's residents. Since it began in 1981, 215 trainees from 26 countries have been accepted to date.
Foreign technical trainees, recommended by overseas Kagoshima clubs or foreign government organizations, are selected after looking into the content of their desired fields of study and the organizations accepting them for internships. The fields of study cover a wide range, from agriculture, stock-raising, construction, medical to education.
In September this year, 3 such foreign technical trainees arrived in Kagoshima, from Brazil, Dominican Republic and China. From September till the end of October, they will mainly be learning the Japanese language in KAPIC Center in Kanoya, while also participating in local events such as Sports' Day and experiencing home stays. From November to next February, these 3 trainees will be interning at their respective internship organizations in Kagoshima city. Their fields of study are in the computer, construction and tourism industries.
Through these 6 months of training, it is hoped that the trainees will overcome the differences in language and lifestyle, to gain skills, knowledge and experiences that they can put to use for their home countries' development when they return.

Aired in 2008, depicting the heroine who led in the turbulent times during the transition from the Tokugawa shogunate to the Meiji era, NHK's Taiga (big production) drama "Atsuhime" is slated to be broadcasted in South Korea as well.
Since the broadcasting of "Atsuhime" in Taiwan from March to May this year, Taiwanese travel agencies organized Atsuhime tour packages and many Taiwanese visited the hometown of Atsuhime - Kagoshima.
