In a corner of Shiroyama Sogo Park stands the ruins of the outer citadel of Matsuyama Castle, which is said to have been built by Tairano Shigeyori in 1188. Through many wars, the castle later came under the control of the Shimazu Clan. There is now an observatory made to look like a castle.
