Hello — I'm Yuki Matsuoka from Tokunoshima Island in Amami Islands.

I'm originally from Tokyo and have spent more than 20 years in Tokunoshima — one of four islands in the Amami Archipelago designated as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 2021. Known as the "Island of Longevity and Blessed Births" for its extraordinary number of centenarians and Japan's highest birth rates, this island holds a rhythm that the rest of the world has quietly been searching for.

As a Certified Eco-Tour Guide and Interpreter for the Amami Islands, and as the Chief of the Town Chronicle Compilation Division under the Isen Town Board of Education, I bring together academic depth and deep-rooted local trust to craft journeys that no guidebook would offer — conversations with village elders, after-dark encounters with species found nowhere else on Earth, and stories that have waited generations to be told.

My hope is that your time in Kagoshima including the Amami Islands becomes more than a destination on a map rather it to be a kind of journey you carry with you long after you've returned home.
