A powerful earthquake registering a magnitude of 7.1 according to the Japan Meteorological Agency struck [KW1.1]Kumamoto Prefecture on July 28, 2026.
Service on the Kyushu Shinkansen between Kumamoto and Kagoshima-Chuo stations remains disrupted, [KW2.1]and sections of expressways in Kumamoto and Miyazaki prefectures are closed to traffic.
Accommodations and tourist facilities within Kagoshima Prefecture are operating as usual.
