Izumi Wintering Habitat of Cranes Designated a Ramsar Site

On November 18th, 2021, the Izumi Wintering Habitat of Cranes was named Japan’s 53rd Ramsar Site, a wetland of international importance designated under the Ramsar Convention. The site in northern Kagoshima prefecture was recognised for “being a wetland habitat that periodically supports over 10,000 birds” and for meeting four of the nine criteria for identifying wetlands of international importance.
