Reasons to come to Yoron Island

Located at the southernmost tip of Kagoshima Prefecture, Yoron Island is only about 20 kilometers from mainland Okinawa. This has created an island culture that has been influenced over the centuries by both Ryukyu (Okinawa) and Satsuma (Kagoshima). One example is traditional performing arts unique to the island. Yoron Island is surrounded by coral reefs, and the 60 white beaches of various sizes are so beautiful that you may find it hard to believe you are in Japan. Perhaps the most wonderful site is Yurigahama Beach, an island that only appears during low tide. According to legend, if you find as many star-shaped sand pieces as your age, you will find happiness.

Yoron Station

There are no railroads on Yoron Island but there is a monument to a station named Yoron. Inside, there is a rail about 5 meters long that you can ride for free.
