Gion Matsuri is a traditional festival of Yasaka Jinja shrines all over Japan since the Edo period, and is affectionately known as "Ogionsa" in Kagoshima.

This festival lasts 2 days, with an eve festival "Yoi-matsuri" and the main festival "Hon-matsuri".

The "Hon-matsuri" parade consists of around 3000 people walking about 2km around the city center.

You can experience the feverish excitement and lively cheers of Kagoshima's summer!
