This beautiful Banyan tree is shaped like Mt. Fuji, and its branches spread out over much of the school yard that it calls home. It was planted on the grounds of Kunigami Elementary School by its first graduating class in 1898 and has been carefully looked after by successive generations. With a height of 8 m (26 ft), a spread of 22 m (72 ft), and a girth of 6 m (20 ft). Step out of the sun and into the cool shade of what they say is Japan’s biggest banyan tree.
