Seibu Rindo Forest Path
(西部林道)
Located on the west side of Yakushima, the Seibu Rindo (West Forest Trail) is a 20km (12.4 miles) stretch of road that passes along pristine coastline and through untouched, mountainous forest. Most of the road (15km) is located within the island’s World Natural Heritage area. Nearly the entire road is surrounded by evergreen forest; enjoy passing through the “green tunnels” and looking for the wild Yaku monkeys that lounge around along the road, but please do not feed or touch them.
2023.9.1: Notice
Due to damage to a bridge caused by a typhoon, a section of the Seibu Rindo Forest Path is currently impassible, making it impossible to complete a circuit of Yakushima at the moment. The closed section is approximately 2.7 km but, from 5pm to 7am, approximately 11 km of road is closed. For more information, please click here.
