Aoki Shrine （檍神社）

This shrine was established at a site closely associated with the myths recorded in the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters) and the Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan), where the principal deity, Izanagi-no-Mikoto, is said to have performed a purification ritual.

The shrine enshrines 26 deities.

The clear spring water that wells up in Odo Pond within the shrine grounds is believed to bring good fortune in childbirth when drunk by pregnant women.

Next to the main shrine building stands a statue of Jizo Bosatsu, a Buddhist deity associated with safe childbirth and fertility. The sacred water flowing from the statue’s breasts is affectionately known as “Oppai Mizu” (“Breast Water”).
