Goat dishes has been popular among the Amami islands, and Kikaijima has a great variety. Try our Karajuri, goat stewed with vegetables and the internal organs and blood. There are also ever popular goat stew and unique goat sashimi and goat sushi.
CUISINE
Aburasomen (Fried 'somen' noodle)
Favorite home cooking dish. In Kikaijima, noodles are fried with a sauce made with dried sardine, dried bonito, dried kelp etc. It is the light and simple island flavor.
Gomagashi (Brown sugar with sesame)
Gomagashi is the snack made with brown sugar with plenty of sesame. With rich minerals, it is the island flavorful specialty.
Kyamikan
There are many orange trees in the yards and along the streets. They are called 'Kyamikan' or 'Kikaimikan' (Kikai Oranges) and enjoyed in other islands. Savory 'Kerajimikan' is popular.
Amami Kokutou (Brown sugar) Shochu
Made of the brown sugar, Kokuto Shochu is produced only in the Amami archipelago. Enjoy its smooth and rich flavor!
White Sesame
Kikaijima is the largest producer in Japan, featuring rich aroma and great taste.
