On the roughly 100,000 square-meter temple grounds is an expansive Japanese garden maintained by Buddhist monks. The garden is decorated with a massive 35-ton stone, many other stones, moss, and centuries-old stone lanterns, as well arrays of seasonal flowers such as azaleas and drooping branches of cherry blossoms. In addition, there are more than 100 Japanese maple trees that delight visitors' eyes in early summer with the fresh buds of young leaves and in autumn with beautifully colorful foliage. ◇Typical best viewing period: Late March - Early April
