[ What to know for a better experience ]
・The Osumi Peninsula is home to Japan's largest north-south stretch of laurel forest; this vast expanse of unspoiled nature, which contains roughly 4,000 species of plants, is the perfect environment for botanical cosmetics
・The nearby Sata Kyuuyaku-en was said to once house medicinal herbs imported from the South Seas and play host to medical research until the mid-19th century; it is a great local experience that combines history and culture
・The cosmetics factory, which repurposed an abandoned elementary school, is the first of its kind in Japan
・The workshop is available on rainy days, and the times are negotiable
・The types of cosmetics and the workshop tasks can be tailored to the participant's age; call ahead to make arrangements
