Kiln of the 15th Chin Jukan
(沈壽官窯 沈家伝世品収蔵庫)
The flagship of Satsuma ware, boasting a 400-year history.
Chin Jukan Kiln has been producing Satsuma ware for more than 400 years. Using local Satsuma (Kagoshima) clay and the classic climbing kiln, this facility creates Satsuma ware that combines traditional techniques with a modern sensibility.
The grounds are spacious and interesting, with a repository displaying the Chin family's heirloom collection, a shop, and a café. Don't forget to check out the traditional climbing kiln, which remains in use, and the workshop where you can observe potters at work.
