The Miyama Pottery Festival has been held since 1986. The festival commemorates and appreciates the achievements of Miyama forefathers who passed on pottery-making techniques, and aims to familiarize visitors with the traditions and history of Satsuma-yaki pottery and other crafts.

Visitors can enjoy not only the art and craft works, but also the people: the highly individualistic artists and craftspeople as well as the local residents who offer a spirit of hospitality; the food: coffee shops and restaurants that have opened up in Miyama because of the town's appeal; and the townscape: quiet and charming spaces, all of which make every-day Miyama more familiar and enjoyable.
