The Kyushu azalea is a species of azalea which grows high in the mountains. The plants are shrubs about 1 meter high with 2-3 reddish-purple flowers blooming on the tip of each branch. The flowers are typically in full bloom from mid- to late May in Takachiho-gawara, late May to early June in Ebino Plateau, and mid- to late June at the summit of Mount Karakuni. Come and see the Kirishima Mountains dyed in reddish-purple.
